We cooked our meals over an
open fire using iron pots, Dutch ovens, skillets, spits and
planks.
We dipped the candles (made
of beeswax and tallow) that we needed for the evening, and
churned the butter that we used for cooking.
The men hewed mightily at
a large log that they split in order to make a new shaving
horse for the 18th century farm site.
We also played some 18th century
games, learned how to spin wool, started a fire with flint
and steel, and practiced our handwriting using quill pens
and oak gall ink.
