The Claude Moore Colonial Farm at Turkey Run seeks an intern
interested in developing and presenting Educational/Interpretive
Programs at a living history museum.
The Claude Moore Colonial Farm portrays family life on a small,
low-income farm just prior to the Revolutionary War. This privately
operated National Park, located just outside of Washington, DC,
has served more than one million visitors during its 30 years of
operation. The Farm educates the public about the history of American
agriculture through visitors' active participation and involvement
in the eighteenth-century farm site and associated educational programs.
Specific duties include:
- Portray life on the 1771 tenant
farm as a first-person character, which includes interacting
with the public and performing farm tasks in period costume and
in a variety of weather conditions.
- Present the Farm Skills
educational program to visiting school-aged groups.
- Supervise volunteers in accomplishing the above tasks.
Eligibility:
Must
be 18 years or older.
Commitment:
Five days per week
from 9am to 5pm for a paid internship (some weekends included),
for the duration of 8 weeks.
Unpaid internships are more flexible.
Compensation:
One paid and several
unpaid internships are available.
