A visit to the Claude Moore
Colonial Farm is a visit to another world ...the world
of an 18th Century family living on a small,
low-income farm just prior to the Revolutionary War.
Paid
reservations are required for all of these workshops. The
deadline for reservations and for refunds is 1 week prior

Claude Moore Colonial Farm.

18th Century Clothing
This will cover the basic clothing items:
shirts, trousers, waistcoats, caps, kerchiefs, shifts, petticoats,
shortgowns, and aprons. Come trace a pattern, examine examples
of garments, and have your sewing questions answered by our
staff. You may also purchase 100% linen cloth from the Farm
or have your own fabric approved for use on the farm site.
Even if you do not plan to make your own 18th-century clothing,
this is an excellent opportunity to learn more about who wore
what in the 18th century and why they wore it! Paid
reservations required.

Farm Animals
Meet the Farm's animals up close! Learn
the backgrounds of the Farm's historic breeds of cattle,
pigs, chickens, turkeys and geese, and how to correctly
handle each of these animals while on the 1771 farm site.
This will be a hands-on training; wear something that you
would not mind holding a chicken in! Paid
reservations required.

Hearth Cooking
Tired of your stove at home? Learn to prepare
food over a fire like a colonial cook... and taste your

The Militia
Come learn about the regular folks who kept
Virginia safe during the French & Indian war; we will
be discussing the history, learning some military maneuvers,
and examining original weapons of the period. Paid

Winter Traditions
Learn the songs, dances, stories and games that
18th century folk used to celebrate holidays and enliven the
winter evenings. Paid reservations
